Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS)

Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) promote the mental health and psychological wellbeing of children and young people. It provides high quality, multi-disciplinary mental health services to all children and young people with mental health difficulties and disorders to ensure effective assessment, treatment and therapeutic support for them and their families. Many of our children are already known to CAMHS and staff at Courtlands will liaise with the CAMHS team to ensure positive outcomes for children. If a child is not already known to CAMHS, then we can refer them to our school CAMHS worker. All special schools and secondary schools in Plymouth has access to a CAMHS worker for half a day a week. We are able to refer children to our CAMHS worker if they are presenting with a mental health difficulty. This may lead to advice being given, a consultation taking place or further assessments carried out by CAMHS depending on the individual. The SENCo regularly liaises with the CAMHS worker and monitors the support in place.
