Speech & Language
The Children’s Speech and Language Service provides specialist
assessment and treatment for children who, for a variety of reasons,
may be experiencing difficulties communicating. The service currently
operates an open referral system, meaning anyone who has concerns
may refer a child, although all forms must have parental consent before
they are considered.
The service helps children who have difficulty with:
• Talking clearly
• Expressing themselves
• Social communication
• Understanding what is said to them
• Talking fluently
• Voice quality
• Feeding / swallowing
Many of the children at Courtlands receive support from this service. If
staff or parents have concerns about a child’s communication, the
school is able to refer to this service via the SENCo.
